Methodology & TransparencyHow Real Field Data Powers Every AC Ranking

We do not claim laboratory tests we never conducted. Every AC recommendation on Cooling Insights is grounded in install logs, service records, and real-world observations from Indian homes. Here is exactly how we work.

Our Promise

No Fake Lab Claims. No Spec-Sheet Reviews.

Unlike competitors who simulate rigorous performance testing with fictional lab environments, Cooling Insights is transparent about our data sources. We rank air conditioners based on what actually happens when they are installed in real Indian homes — not on manufacturer brochures or theoretical benchmarks.

All data sourced from actual install logs and service call records

Cooling speed measured in real rooms, not climate chambers

Electricity data comes from consumer meter readings, not BEE labels

Service network coverage verified by calling technicians in 15+ cities

The 5 Data Sources Behind Every Ranking

Our editorial process draws from five distinct real-world data streams. No single source dominates — we cross-reference all of them before publishing any recommendation.

Install Logs

Every AC we recommend has been physically installed by our team or partner technicians. Install logs record actual cooling speed, noise levels, fitment issues, and installer notes that never appear on spec sheets.

200+ logged installations

Service Call Records

We maintain a database of service calls across brands and models. This tells us which ACs break, what breaks first, how long repairs take, and whether spare parts are actually available in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

500+ service calls tracked

Consumer Meter Readings

Electricity consumption figures come from real consumer electricity bills, not BEE labels. We collect month-on-month kWh data from households using different star ratings and tonnages to verify manufacturer claims.

50+ households tracked quarterly

Climate Zone Observations

An AC that performs in Bangalore may fail in Rajasthan. We track model-specific performance across coastal, desert, humid, and plain climate zones to ensure recommendations match where you actually live.

6 climate zones covered

Service Network Audits

We anonymously call authorized service centers in 15+ Indian cities to measure response times, technician competence, and parts availability. A great AC with no service is a bad buy — we track this reality.

15 cities audited annually

Longevity Tracking

For models released 3+ years ago, we track how they age. Compressor failure rates, gas leakage frequency, PCB replacement rates, and coil corrosion patterns all feed into durability scores.

3–5 year follow-up cohort

Our Editorial Review Process

Every article, comparison, and recommendation passes through a structured review workflow before publication.

01

Field Observation

Technician installs, services, or repairs the AC. Notes are logged in standardized format: cooling speed, noise, voltage handling, and any fitment issues.

02

Data Cross-Check

Install logs are compared against service records and consumer meter readings. Discrepancies trigger a second round of observation.

03

Editorial Review

The DU Tech Team reviews findings for accuracy, relevance, and balance. Every product gets both pros and cons — no brand gets a free pass.

04

Quarterly Refresh

Rankings are re-evaluated every 3 months. New models are added, discontinued ones removed, and durability scores updated based on latest service data.

What We Explicitly Do NOT Do

No Fake Lab Testing Claims

We never claim ISO-certified lab testing, climate chamber benchmarks, or simulated load testing we did not actually perform. If a competitor makes such claims without proof, that is their ethical gap — not ours.

No Spec-Sheet-Only Rankings

We do not rank ACs by copying ISEER numbers and cooling capacity from manufacturer PDFs. Real-world performance often diverges from spec sheets by 15–25%.

No Paid Placement

Brands cannot pay for higher rankings, featured placement, or positive-only coverage. Affiliate links are disclosed transparently and do not influence editorial decisions.

No Theoretical Efficiency Scores

We do not calculate theoretical efficiency scores based on BEE formulas alone. Actual electricity consumption depends on install quality, voltage stability, and local climate — all of which we account for.

Data Collection Standards

Cooling speed test

Room temp drop from 35°C to 24°C, timed with calibrated thermometer

Noise measurement

Decibel meter at 1m from indoor unit, low/medium/turbo speeds

Power consumption

Wattmeter on AC isolator, 7-day continuous logging

Voltage tolerance

Variac simulation from 90V to 300V, stability observed

Service response time

Anonymous calls to 3+ service centers per brand per city

Longevity tracking

Quarterly follow-up with 3+ year old install cohorts

Limitations & Honest Disclosures

No review system is perfect. Here are the honest limitations of our methodology so you can make an informed decision about how much weight to give our recommendations.

Sample Size Constraints

We cannot test every SKU variant of every brand. Our rankings focus on the most popular models. Niche or newly launched variants may not yet appear in our dataset.

Regional Variability

An AC that performs well in dry Delhi summers may behave differently in humid Chennai or dusty Jaipur. We account for this with climate-zone weighting, but individual home conditions still vary.

Install Quality Dependency

Even the best AC can underperform if installed poorly. Our rankings assume standard professional installation. DIY or low-quality installs can degrade performance regardless of the model.
